November II

Sat Nov 7, 2009, 6:44 PM
So,
The fantastic news is that my fiance did not need the defibrulator! They went in through the artery in his thigh with some thick tube, and snaked it upward. From what I understand, they zapped is heart, played with different rhythms and discovered that for now, he is perfectly safe. I got to take him home Friday night. It was such a relief.

Now, let me take a moment to tell you how demented Yale hospital can be... I got up at 5:30am and drove my fiance for his 7am appointment. The first person we spoke to gave us the wrong floor, it was obvious he didn't feel like working and wanted to chat with his buddies in the empty waiting room. So right away, we were on the wrong floor. After they took him away for testing, I was informed that there were no waiting rooms where he was going, and that they'd call me in 2.5 hours to let me know how the test went, and if they were going to proceed with surgery. I found a quiet room and wrote out my lesson plan for my next class. After 3.5 hours, no one had called me- so I ran around the hospital bugging front desk people as to the wherabouts of my fiance. It was so irritating. One guy told me he was going to have a procedure on a different floor, then another woman couldn't find him in the computer. One bitchy desk lady didnt see him immediately in the system and in a shrill tone said "Maam, I dont know what to tell you. You can stand her if you want and see if he comes through the door"; offering absolutely zero assistance. I walked away in tears. Thankfully her boss saw me upset and decided to take up my hunt herself. I made sure to tell her how horrid the desk lady had been- she seemed mortified. Again, he couldnt be found in the system- I half wondered if people thought I was hallucinating my fiance and I really belonged in a padded cell?
Finally they realized he'd been moved from the in patient computer program to the outpatient- Yale works on 2 different computer systems and not all patients are in both systems. I finally found him after a nice long jog around the hospital. It was sooo frustrating and silly. In any news. Yes people, even big shot places like Yale are too large to provide proper communication- Lesson learned for me : )

Looking forward to shooting tomorrow while Gunn feels well enough to go watch football. After all the stress, I'm just so relieved that for now, his heart is alright ; ) Thanks to everyone who has been so supportive : )

November

Well,

My students were completely out of it this week. Most of them did not have their rough drafts in class (or even started them) and most did not finish reading the book we were supposed to discuss. I ended up making up a lesson plan on the fly. It kinda sucked. I'm supposed to keep the class for 2.5 hours, and I could only stretch it to almost 2- not bad, but not fantastic either. I am nervous about finding more for them to do, and keeping them interested and up to date with their writing.

In other news, I did have a shred of good news this week. I recently worked on a shoot in the basement of my apartment. It's very dark, made of old stone- very dungeon looking. The shoot was with photographer Chelsea Franks and Make up artist "Manhattan Mak up" both from Brooklyn. Apparently the shots we took will be submitted in the hopes of being published. I can't post the shots until they are published, but the photographer seems confident that they will be accepted! yay! It was a high fashion/goth shoot.

Tomorrow is my visit to Yale with my fiance. I am keeping my fingers crossed that he will not need the defibrullator. If he doesn't, I can bring him home- if he does, I will have to pick him up on Saturday. Not excited about having to sit with his parents (who don't really love me at all and probably wish I wasn't marrying him) but whatever. I will bury myself in my work and try to develop a decent class lesson for Tuesday.

Sunday I have lots to look forward too. A shoot with 2 other models, a great MUA and Photographer Kevin Stiles aka tattoostiles! I won't give much away as to the content of the shoot, but we have cool gowns to wear and a great concept. Nina Pak will be doing the post editing- it will be a wonderful collaboration!

Well MMers, that's how things are over on my side of the universe : )

More stuff : (

Mon Oct 5, 2009, 8:04 AM
So,

We found out recently that my fiance's heart monitor showed that his heart beats too quickly, and that he is still suffering from arrhythmia. The Doctors gave us a shock, telling us that something like this could lead to his passing out, and even death as apparently his heart could suddenly stop.
They, of course, can't know for certain until they put him under for some serious testing. As they conduct the test, if they find that his heart is beating strangely as they suspect, they will immediately put a defibrullator in his chest. It is a device that zaps the heart into beating at a regular rate, or zaps it into beating again should it stop. It's a mini version of the paddles you see doctors zapping people in the chest with on television. It would go right over his heart. It will also be able to provide updates on how his heart is doing- straight to his Dr. at Yale without needing an appointment.
I knew we were in for some troubles with his heart problem, but I honestly thought (as the dr.s did) that the heart surgery would make everything normal, or as normal as possible, and it would be smooth sailing until the wedding- but life seems to never go as expected. Its kinda a blow to find that now something else is happening that isn't quite right.
We will know more at the beginning of November when he has the testing- I'm just praying he won't need this mechanical device in his chest- he's already been through so much.
